2007 Restoration
Beginning on April 9th, 2007, Empire Contractors of Evansville, in association with Architectural Renovators and other local companies began work on the 2007 Restoration project here at St. Mary. Over the course of the project, the workers accomplished a number of the goals, some of which included:- Installation and restoration of historic Assumption Window, originally part of Evansville’s first Cathedral; donated by the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science
- Removal of the old Wicks pipe organ, built in 1941; pipework was distributed to various locations, including St. Boniface Church here in Evansville
- Demolition and removal of the balcony and reinforcement of the back columns
- Restoration of all stained glass windows
- Adjusting the locations of the Stations of the Cross
- Rebuilding the baptistery area and installing a new ramp for increased accessibility for people with disabilities
- Rebuilding the sanctuary area in Church to allow for better use during liturgical celebrations
- Addition of a new working sacristy area
- Addition of a new reconciliation chapel
- Demolition and construction of a new garage
- Removing the old HVAC system and installing a new, up-to-date system
- Renovating Rager Hall for greater access and utility
- Installation of new bathrooms
